Media Platforms:<\/strong>\u00a0Live news broadcasts and social media serve to update in real-time, but they will often miss out on depth, accuracy, and context.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember47\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Even if the authorities have taken over the investigation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember48\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Inform the public about the incident on a\u00a0<strong>prepared website<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(this is part of crisis prevention).<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide your own experts for the media. This way you keep the threads of communication in your own hands.<\/li>\n<li>Pay attention to whistleblowers. Take whistleblowers and their impact on the media and the community seriously. Be sure to respond to them. Say what you are doing now and by when, if necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p id=\"ember50\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>2. Journalists and Editorial Sensationalism:\u00a0<\/strong>Each journalist shows the highest level of professionalism. They also decide whether the news has the newsworthiness of its readership. However, there will be editors who will find the need to make their headlines attention grabbing. That&#8217;s how they land on-point and nuanced article content. They value relevance and timeliness, reliable sources and diversity of perspectives.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Show journalists that they work well and that you enjoy working with them. Like you, they are doing their job. Accept them as partners, because that&#8217;s what they are.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p id=\"ember52\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>3. Social Media<\/strong>\u00a0is a minefield of negativity, misinformation, and hostility.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember53\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Diverse opinions are expected, but the volume of negativity and uninformed comments will be overwhelming.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember54\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">People write about stories that move them&#8230;<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember55\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Regardless of whether you inform as a person concerned and are on the social media channels or not.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember56\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">People are discussing about you and your company &#8211; with or without you.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember57\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">That is why it is important to\u00a0<strong>inform regularly on social media<\/strong>\u00a0in case of a crisis.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p id=\"ember58\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>4. Subject Matter Experts:\u00a0<\/strong>In crisis situations, expertise matters. But some media outlets don&#8217;t really differentiate seasoned professionals and<em>\u00a0armchair experts.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Before the crisis, find experts from different fields who can speak to the media in different crises. This way you are sure what information will be disseminated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"ember60\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">If not, the media will find their own experts.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember61\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">So keep crisis communication in your own hands.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember62\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">The audience deserves insights based on facts, not just speculation.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p id=\"ember63\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>5. PR and Crisis Communication Experts:<\/strong>\u00a0Don&#8217;t waste time. Get a crisis communicator by your side in peacetime to prepare you for crises. So you can act faster and more efficiently, because the know you and your company.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember64\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Even if you&#8217;re media-savvy, consulting with crisis experts, can be a game-changer.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember65\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Their strategic insights and ability to manage narratives are invaluable, especially during crises.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"reader-image-block reader-image-block--full-width\">\n<figure class=\"reader-image-block__figure\">\n<div class=\"ivm-image-view-model\">\n<div class=\"ivm-view-attr__img-wrapper display-flex\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"ember66\" class=\"ivm-view-attr__img--centered  reader-image-block__img evi-image lazy-image ember-view\" src=\"https:\/\/media.licdn.com\/dms\/image\/D5612AQFXOWaEg3HxtA\/article-inline_image-shrink_1500_2232\/0\/1693564243483?e=1705536000&amp;v=beta&amp;t=JSIUBTubHZZBFAVmFsbETPV3ogZCXNChGS-ihk2KWH0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<figcaption class=\"display-block mt2 full-width text-body-small-open t-sans text-align-center t-black--light\">Photo reference to Neue Z\u00fcrcher Zeitung, Daily Mail, New York Times.<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"ember67\" class=\"ember-view\">Ocean Gate Crisis Summary:<\/h2>\n<p id=\"ember68\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">On 18 June, five people had set off with the submersible &#8222;Titan&#8220; to the wreck of the &#8222;Titanic&#8220;, which sank more than 100 years ago, at a depth of 3800 meters.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember69\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Less than two hours later, contact with the crew broke off and a large-scale search for the missing persons began.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember70\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/the-new-york-times\/\" data-entity-type=\"MINI_COMPANY\">The New York Times<\/a>\u00a0estimates the cost of the search operation, which lasted several days, at more than 50 million dollars.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember71\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Pieces of the submersible debris, including the nose of the submarine&#8217;s fairing, were finally found on 22 June barely 500 meters from the wreck of the &#8222;Titanic&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember72\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">All five occupants of the submarine were dead.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ember73\" class=\"ember-view\">Safety concerns revealed by whistleblower<\/h3>\n<p id=\"ember74\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">In January 2018, there were already doubts about the safety of the submersible . Oceangate technical manager, David Lochridge, made safety deficiencies public.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember75\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">He was then sacked and sued by Oceangate for breaching trade secrets. Lochridge criticized, for example, that the only viewing window on the bow was only approved for pressure at a depth of 1300 meters and that highly flammable materials were used inside the submersible.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember76\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Oceangate was heavily criticized by the deep-sea diving community. Experts warned the company of &#8222;catastrophic consequences&#8220; should the &#8222;Titan&#8220; dive that far with passengers. Incidents have occurred on previous dives.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember77\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>2. Long silence instead of immediate information:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember78\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">On the official website of the company, sub-pages for contacting and team members were deactivated.
